Walking On Sunshine Official Video (Textual Analysis 4)

This is the full embedded music video of the song, that I have chosen to do for my one minute practice piece.

Camera Angles and Shots

Establishing shots used to set all the locations of the music video, that allows audiences to see where is the next location will be when Katrina is singing from. Furthermore there are plenty of close ups of Katrina and the Waves playing and singing to the lyrics of Walking on Sunshine, as it can be said that there is more close-ups of this music artist group playing their instruments or singing than other visuals for the music video. Although there is low angle shots and high angles shot of the music artist group in the music videos that both shows these artist's appearance as well as them being actors for their own music video. Also there is camera shots that are visuals that support the music video by showing the lyrics of the song in images; this allows the audience to see what is meant by the lyrics by pictures. For example when the lyrics say 'knock on the door', Katrina knocks on the side to symbolise this lyric line of the song at 0:30 in the music video.

Mise-en-scene

The setting of the music video is set in London, as there is camera shots that shown a part of London such as at (2:07) minutes in the music video there is a long shot of the artist singing whilst in the background there is London Bridge. The female singer is dressed in bright, colourful clothing (costume) that suggests that she is the happy one as she is walking on sunshine whilst the other band members are dressed with a long, grey coat. This implies that these males dressed in long, grey coats are unhappy and miserable that there is no sunshine in London at the time whilst the female is singing to them to be happy and walk on sunshine with her. Furthermore there is plenty of different locations in which the band members are acting from; for example at the start of the music video the band are acting in a backstreet buildings, then the next location is a park and afters moves to a side of the Thames in London and famous buildings like Big Ben and London Bridge. The music video is both a narrative and a performance as the music video involves footage of the band singing and playing on a stage and camera shots of them acting in a variety of different locations in London.

Editing and Sound

The pace of the music video is fast as the different clips of the song's footage is quick that they fit into the lyrics of the song. Also the lyrics of the song matches the footage of Katrina singing the lyrics correctly to the beat and pace of the song. Furthermore the footage of the visuals helps the audience with what is being song in the lyrics of Walking on Sunshine as the visuals allows a clear understanding of the lyrics to the song as the duration of the slips allows the audience to see what is happening within the narrative of the song.
Also the editing of the clips/footage can be symbolised by the pace of the beat of the song, which shows that the footage matches the beat as shot and reverse shots are used to show this.

The diegetic sound of the lyrics being song in the music video fits to the visuals and the reactions of  Katrina singing matches one another, this allows the music video to work and the editing of the clips. In the music video, the audience can only hear the lyrics of the song and nothing else; this means that there is no background or non-diegetic sound interrupting the music or the lyrics of the song.
