Inspiration Ideas for the Music Video

From listening to one of my favourite music bands, I watched the music video to 'You Me At Six - Room To Breathe', which gave me an idea for my own music video.
This music video was produced and directed in a different way than the band's other music videos, as you can see in the above music video image is that its overlapped by another image. This editing technique is very efficient and showing a different approach as the music video is showing the band playing. But also at the same time playing other footage of the audience within the footage of the band on the white screen.

For my own music video 'Time and Tragedy', I planned to use this editing technique of footage playing within other footage (overlapping). As this will give the music video, a different approach to other music videos as it is efficient and clever.

Convergence

How has media convergence culture changed over the time and its impact upon the audience?

Over the time, media convergence culture has changed over the years as can be evidenced by the evolution of the CD that replaced the vinals for a while. As the CD Albums and Digipacks has replaced vinals in traditional media ways, however from the start of the new millennium (2000), has started to take the audience away from traditional media to mainstream media.
This meant for CD Albums and Digipacks to go digital as well as non-digital, this implies that the mass of their music performer's audience uses mainstream media more nowadays than traditional media. And that in order for the music performer to keep up with their successful and keeping their fans. They would have allow their music to be available on social media sites such as Facebook and YouTube and can be bought or downloaded from online stores like iTunes.

This means for my own CD Album/ Digipack, I would have to allow the product to be available on mainstream media like the music video available to watch on YouTube, and have the album available to buy online from either the band's store page or iTunes.
Furthermore, allow the album to buy in traditional ways as some of the audiences like to buy the product as a memory of what they like listening to or to keep it as a 'treasure'.

Design Ideas For The CD Cover - Band Logo

This piece of paper shows some rough ideas that I had for my music video CD album.
I am considering that the design for the CD will be black and white colours, as they have a strong appeal and eye-catching to audiences. Furthermore the colours will fit to the music's genre which is Pump Rock, as some existing rock bands and artist uses these colours for their own albums, as they have a strong impact and appearance of what's in that genre.

Additionally, this piece of rough designs will help me to plan out further with developing the design for the music song's album, as I will have an idea of what colours to use and the style in which the album may look like.

Locations

The plan for making the music video for 'Time and Tragedy' is that the main singer will be playing and performing the song in a hall with plenty of camera angle shots for different positions.
Furthermore I planned to have a blue background on the wall whilst the singer is performing for some of the camera shots as this will create another effect to the music video.

This is another camera shit angle that will be positioned to take some
shots of the singer.

This a location camera shot of where one of the cameras will be positioned
during the shot of the music video.
In additionally, the tables and chairs will not be there in the shoot.
Furthermore I planned to have other people in the music video, who will be either doing some actions for parts of the song as to match to the lyrics. Or doing some lip-synching to some lyrics of the song.
The below photograph is an example of one of the shots that will symbolise one of the lyrics in the song.
This will be a still photo in the music video to match some lyrics of the
song.

Dick Hebdidge 'Subculture: The Meaning of Style'

Key Facts about 'Subculture: The Meaning of Style':

In 1979, Dick Hebdidge wrote a book that was focusing on the British Youth culture and the different groups that were emerging after World War Two.
As he evidenced by seeing how the youth culture's taste in music was seen to be a symbol of resistance and rebellion, as shown by the style and its association with music.
Hebdidge analysis how each specific sub-cultures (for examples: punk, rockers and skinheads) evolved, furthermore he looked at the shared aspects common to that evolution in socio-economic background, ethnicity and class regional factors.

He identified that there are two types of culture which are:
  • Sub-culture (under)
This type has its own values and beliefs but is often able to exist within mainstream culture.
For example: the genre 'Rock' as there is alternative rock, pump rock and rock and roll (to name a few see the following source to see all the different types of rock: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rock_genres#R).
  • Counter-culture (against)
This type is fundamentally as it goes against the mainstream culture and if it becomes large enough it can end up reshaping the mainstream.

How will I apply this theory to my music video?

For my music video 'Time and Tragedy', this song belongs to Pump Rock that is a sub-culture underneath the main genre of 'Rock'. This means that my music video will have its own values and beliefs as there will be footage of 'rock-like' images such as close-ups of music equipment and the singer. Although this will share similar features that belongs to the main genre but there will be parts of the music video that doesn't quite belong to 'Rock'.

Furthermore, the music video will support Hebdidge's Subculture theory, as it will show what taste does the youth culture listen to and like. This will be evidenced by the footage in the music video as shown by the costume of the singer, in how they are dressed and the other people in the music video in how they are dressed and their style.
In additionally, all the footage in the music video of 'Time and Tragedy' will act as evidence for the theory as it can be an example of one of his points 'symbol of resistance'.

Lyrics for Time and Tragedy

"Tragedy + Time"

On the edges of the sharpest knives
In the middle of the darkest nights
Always knew that I would find you here
In a puddle of the bravest tears

I've seen enough to know it's lonely where you are
Above the crowd
Feet dangling from a rooftop (a rooftop)
She waits from ledges for a voice to talk her down

And nothing matters but the pain when you're alone
The never-ending nights when you're awake
When you're praying that tomorrow it's okay

There will be a time to crack another smile
Maybe not today or for awhile
But we're holding on to laugh again some day
To laugh again some day

All that matters is the time we had
Doesn't matter how it all went bad
Never wonder what it might be like
Shut the door, say goodbye

When faced with tragedy
We come alive or come undone

So don't hold back, let it shape you like an ocean
Even the deepest scars in time will fade

Nothing matters but the pain when you're alone
Never-ending nights when you're awake
When you're praying that tomorrow it's okay
There will be a time to crack another smile
Maybe not today or for awhile
But we're holding on to laugh again some day
Yeah, we're holding on to laugh again some day

And sometimes you have to go back
To know just where you have been
But we're old enough to know that
What has been, will be again and again

And the bravest of faces
Are the ones where we fake it
In the roles that we play

Nothing matters when the pain is all but gone
When you are finally awake
Despite the overwhelming odds, tomorrow came

And when they see you crack a smile
And you decide to stay a while
You'll be ready then, to laugh again

Nothing matters but the pain
(We are tragedy, yeah, we are sympathy)
Nothing matters but the pain
You see what you want to see

Nothing matters but the pain
(We are misery, and distant memories)
Nothing matters but the pain
We all learned to laugh again
Yeah, we all learned to laugh again
We all learned to laugh again

Best CD Covers of all time according to the website - ShortList.com

Queen II
The artist who are in this list for releasing the best ever album covers of all times is like bands and singers such as Queen with their album cover for their album 'Queen 2', the Beatles with both their album covers for Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road and many more.

Beatles' Abbey Road was designed by Kosh and Iain MacMillan as this album cover was very simple as the band walking across a zebra crossing. This image of the Beatles walking across shown that this image was completely, utterly British.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club BandThe Beatles' album cover for Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was designed by Sir Peter Blake. This design for the album cover had been referenced and parodied to become a successful, global selling album.
Pink Floyd 's album cover for Dark Side of the Moon has a simple design as Floyd's live light show and the triangle created a symbol of thought and ambition as it became a part of music and art history. This design was designed by Strom Thorgerson.
